Democratic Party Bloc members have denounced the move by Norbert Mao, the party president for crossing over to Museveni’s National Resistance Movement party for what they call selfish gains.
the Bloc members were angry about the move Mao took especially without consulting the top organs of the party.
In anger, the DP Block members led by Samuel Walter Lubega Mukaaku said that they will strip off the party president’s titles and ensure he does not participate in any of the party activities.
Lulume bayiga, the former Buyikwe south Member of Parliament had views no different from his colleagues saying that the move was uncalled for.
“We have decided to strip off the titles and awards given to both Norbert Mao and Gerald Siranda [The party General Secretary] in the Democratic Party and the two should never appear in any D.P Bloc ceremonies” Lulume said in an interview with a local radio station.
Senior Journalist and political analyst, Andrew Mwenda commended Mao upon the move.
“I am very happy with Norbert Mao. He has proved, again, that he is a serious politician able to blend principle with pragmatism and do it very well. He has also confirmed my long-held conviction that he is a liberal democrat at heart” he said recollecting the time he voted for Mao as president in the 2011 presidential elections.
Just a day after Mao signing cooperation agreement between NRM and DP, Mao was given a ministerial position as The Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister while siranda is expected to be one of the six members picked to represent NRM party in the East African Legislative Assembly in Arusha-Tanzania.
