Iryn Namubiru recently revealed that her first interaction with Frank Morel, with whom she shares two sons, happened while she was performing on stage at Sabrina’s Pub.
This iconic venue, known for its karaoke nights, has been a starting point for many Ugandan artists, including Juliana Kanyomozi, Namubiru’s former bandmate.
On that fateful night, Morel visited the bar with his brother and Harry Lwanga, one of Uganda’s legendary music performers. Lwanga called Namubiru over to meet Morel, who was then the deputy director of Alliance Française. Their sons are now 21 and 16 years old.
Born in Mityana on December 13, 1981, Iryn Namubiru is recognized as one of Uganda’s finest vocalists. Her educational journey saw her attending several primary schools before moving on to Mityana S.S. Namukozi, Bugema Adventist S.S., Mengo S.S. (for one month), and Namasagali College for her secondary education.
Namubiru honed her singing skills in school and church choirs. During her S.4 vacation, she met Ragga Dee, a neighbor in Makindye, who introduced her to professional music.
He took her to a studio where she encountered seasoned artists like Menton Summer, Messe, Emperor Orlando, and Jenkins Mukasa. Ragga Dee often took her to perform at various events.
A year into her S.6 vacation, she met Frank Morel again. At that time, Morel was not only working with the French Embassy in Kampala but also owned a band, which Namubiru joined.
He eventually became her manager, as well as Juliana Kanyomozi’s, when they formed the duo I-Jay. They released an album titled “Wait,” recorded at Baava Studios by producer Daudi Kitasimbwa.
Namubiru’s journey with Morel took a significant turn when she left Uganda after completing a diploma at Airways Tourism & Hotel Institute in Nsambya.
In France, she pursued French studies at Stendhal University. Their professional and personal partnership has played a crucial role in shaping her illustrious career.
