Retired colonel Dr. Kiiza Besigye has warned the government that if it doest work with a plan during the lockdown, ugandans may have to under lockdown after lockdown.
Besigye who has contested for president for the last 4 terms since 2001 to 2016 losing to incumbent Museveni said that the problem with government is that it doesn’t have a plan on which it’s running.
The former presidential aspirant while addresing the press at Katonda advised the government to priorities groups such as the elderly, those with chronic illnesses and essential workers such as teachers and doctors whose work he says makes them more vulnerable because they interact with many people hence putting thier lives at risk.
“Let us do everything we can to protect especially those above 60 years who have chronic ailments that make them vulnerable”. He said.
The Kampala Lord mayor Elias Lukwago who was in company of Besigye scoffed at parliament saying this is not the right time it should be in recess rather it should be seated and asking for accountability on monies approved by it on covid issues.
“They [MPs] should be seating day in day out on a daily basis even at night. Now they decided to go on a long holiday”. He said.
The Lord mayor said that in the way the government is doing things it will be unfortunate to announce another lockdown after the 42 days elapse because Ugandans are counting down the days and if another lockdown it imposed the people will not be happy with it because they want to start working.
“The worst that could happen is for General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to appear on national television and announce an extention even if it is for a week or two and I doubt if ugandans will accept it this time round so the earlier they attend to the issues we have raised here the better. He said.
