Fuel tanker goes up in flames setting two vehicles and five houses ablaze

A fuel tanker that was awaiting clearance has exploded at Goli customs in Nebi District North of Uganda.

The incident happened on Friday morning as the tanker was waiting for clearance to enter into DRC congo.

It is suspected that the driver of the truck fled the scene when the incident happened.

Eye witnesses say that the tanker burst into flames after the driver tried to apply brakes but due to much heat caused by the friction, a fire was sparked off hence the explosion.

“We had to run out of the house only to find the truck already in flames,” one eye witness said.

Nebbi District LC5 Chairman, Mr Emmanuel Urombi confirmed the incident adding that five houses, including two huts belonging to police caught fire as well.

“The situation is not good because people have lost a lot of their household property when their houses also caught fire,” he said.

He added that another truck and a coaster that had parked by the roadside also waiting for clearance to proceed to Mahagi Town in DR Congo also got burnt.

Although no death was registered by press time, a 7 month baby was rescued from one of the houses and a lot of property was burned to ashes by the fire.
