The Minister of Health Dr. Jane Ruth Acheng has encouraged the public not to panic due to the new covid variant that has hit the country.
Yesterday it was revealed that at least 7 people were infected with the new Omnicron Covid 19 variant which is thought to be more infectious.
Speaking to the press on Monday afternoon in Kampala, Dr. Acheng said that those who got infected have a mild infection which should not cause fear.
“I want to call for calm among the population of Uganda to go and get vaccinated. we have adequate vaccines” She said.
The doctor put more emphasis on those settling in the Acholi sub region where she said the threat may come from since it is an exit route to South Sudan among other areas.
“I know very well that the Vaccination coverage in this area is very low and especially the districts of Amuru which exit to South Sudan”.
” I appeal to you, don’t listen to propaganda. let us work together to ensure that the subregion continues to flourish without any hindrance. not even covid 19. And that can only be possible if we vaccinate” she added.
The people who tested positive saw five from Nigeria and Two others from South Africa who were isolated.
