Robert Kyagulanyi popularly known as Bobi Wine has accused the Ugandan government for the rise in fuel prices.
Since last week, the country has been faced with gradual rise in fuel prices with a liter of petrol now going for 10,000 Ugx ($2.7)
Addressing journalists at the National Unity Platform (NUP) headquarters in Kamwokya, a Kampala suburb, Kyagulanyi said that the president (Museveni) failed to build and maintain fuel reserves in Jinja.
“Museveni did not build any reservoir but even what he found he sold destroyed or rendered useless and the regime is not concerned,” he said.
Kyagulanyi said that the high fuel prices have also affected the prices of other goods and services by slightly increasing the prices.
The former presidential candidate accused the government of profiting from such crises.
“The regime is not concerned because the higher the prices go the more benefits and profits their boot lickers make because the economy is owned by the few close to Museveni”.
Mid-November last year the country had faced a similar incident.
The Jinja national reserve plant operated by the Uganda national oil company currently holds an estimated 7 million liters although its capacity is 30 million liters.
The cost of escalating fuel prices is attributed to the fuel trucks still stuck at the Kenya boarder after the government had ordered vaccination of truck drivers at their own expense ($30) before entering Uganda figure the drivers deem to high.
On 15th January 2022, the permanent secretary to the ministry of health issued a letter to district health officers at Malaba and Busia boarder points suspending mandatory covid testing
