Police in Jinja has arrested three suspects in the murder of a 33-year-old weightlifter who was attacked and stabbed on Sunday morning as she returned from her workplace. The deceased has been identified as Prossy Nyanga, a decorated national weightlifter associated with the Black Monster Gym located at Kakindu Stadium in Jinja City.
According to the Jinja District Police Commander, David Otabong, the deceased was operating a retail shop in Bugembe Trading Centre where she was selling sold soft beverages and cosmetics next to her chips stall. This is where she was returning from at 4:00 am when the thugs attacked her.
Since the incident, three suspects have been apprehended in a joint operation between police and residents of the community. One of the suspects was found with a weapon and gadgets that are suspected to have been in Nyanga’s possession.
“Following the incident, Police, with the help of local leaders and residents, arrested a suspect, who was in possession of a bloodstained knife and two phones that are said to have belonged to the deceased, and later arrested two more suspects,” Otabong said.
