Gunmen Attack UPDF Barracks, Kill Officer Manning Check Point, Rob Two Sub Machine Guns….

Police and security forces are investigating the circumstances under which an officer of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) was gunned down. The incident happened on Thursday evening when unknown assailants raided Gaddafi Barracks in Jinja city and shot dead the UPDF officer who was manning the entry checkpoint and robbed two SMG rifles.

“Please ignore reports that two police officers were attacked & killed in Jinja by unknown armed assailants. The alleged attack was against a UPDF officer manning the entry checkpoint at Gaddafi Barracks, who was killed & two guns robbed. The cowardly attack is being investigated,” police said.

This is the third attack on a security installation in a span of two and a half weeks.

The first one was when around eight unknown gunmen killed the officer-in-charge (OC) of investigations alongside a police constable and injured another in an attack on Busiika Police Post in Luweero District.

The second was when gunmen riding on a motorcycle opened fire at Kensington Police Post in Kyanja.
