All specified national leaders are expected to declare their wealth by March 2025 according to the Inspector General of Government (IGG) Hon. Beti Kamya.
During a press briefing in Kampala, the IGG said that it is mandatory for all leaders to declare their wealth in accordance to the leadership code act, Cap 33.
“The Leadership Code Act, Cap 33 requires specified leaders to declare their income, assets and liabilities to the IGG every two years in the month of March”. Adding that Chapter 14 of the constitution and the Leadership Code Act mandates the IGG and the Leadership code Tribunal to enforce the Leadership Code of Conduct.
Declarations made through an online system, the Inspectorate of Government Online Declaration System (IG-ODS), require one to obtain a form from the IGG’s website, fill in the particulars of the form, and submit the form within the required time.
Some of the leaders expected to declare their wealth include the President, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Permanent Secretaries and heads of sections in Ministries, Local government leaders such as District Chairpersons, Mayors, Chief Accounting Officers among other leaders.
The IGG noted that from the previous declaration, it was noted that most leaders waited until the last minute to submit in their declarations which slowed down the network leading to others not to submit.
Declaration for leaders is done every after two years with the last declaration having been done in March 2023 while Public officers have their declaration done every after five years with the last one having been done in April 2022 and the next one due in April 2026
