With a registered case of 97,638 cumulative confirmed cases of covid-19 as of 20th August 2021 and a reduction in daily confirmed cases from the period of 10th July 2021 to a new low of 62 on 15th August 2021, the health ministry has decided to ease travel restrictions to those coming in the country
While addressing the press on the update on covid-19 response post lockdown, the minister of Health Dr. Jane Ruth Acheng said that since the categorised countries as of April 30th 2021 based on trend of Covid9 outbreak were low it was necessary to consider easing the restriction.
According to Acheng India which was a category 1 country, USA, UK, United Arab Emirates Turkey, South Africa, South Sudan, Kenya and Tanzania being category 2 and lastly countries who are not in the above two categories were each given different restrictions with an exception of India restricted to only luggage.
After a revision by the ministry, a decision was taken to make new measures travel measures.
” I would now like to announce new measures instituted by the ministry of Health following the review of the covid-19 situation across the world” she said.
India after being scrapped off the category 1 country with effect from 20th 2021 which exempted people in that country from travelling to uganda to category 2, travellers have been allowed to travel but requiring a negative PCR test done 72 hours prior to travel and undergo mandatory screening And carry out a PCR test at thier own expense.
Truck drivers have been advised to follow procedure laid down by the East African Community ie test prior to travel with evidence.
