The Higher Education Students’ Financing Board (HESFB) has agreed to granting loans to continuing students in order for them to complete higher education.
Since 2014, the Board has been implementing the students’ Loan scheme in a bid to increase access to Higher Education and support highly qualified Ugandan students who may not afford higher education.
The Board has long co sidered supporting this group but was only constrained by shortages in funding”. The Certified Public Accounts (CPA) Executive Director, Micheal. O. Wanyama said.
“Parliament of Uganda approved additional fundingof UGX 500million to cater for continuing students effective academic year 2021/22”. He added assuringly.
Eligible students for the loan are;
Ugandan students,
Applicants in thier final year
Perusing any of the HESFBs approved science technology engineering and maths (STEM) programme or programmes approved under affirmative action
Studying in any of the approved Higher Institutions of Learning ie all public Universities, all chartered private Universities and all listed Other tertiary Institutions.
Applicants demonstrating a financial need who will be appraised under the Means Testing Instruments.
According to the 2016 ‘Africa Higher Education Student’s survey project’, almost 30% of all studentsI Uganda who join University education on various degree programmes in various universities never finish thier courses on time or just drop out.
