The National Planning Authority has projected a slight increase of covid cases in Uganda.
Speaking to press on Tuesday about the Covid-19 projections, Eng. Muwanguzi J.B Abraham, the manager Science Planning Department (National Planning Authority) revealed that from the week 5th to 11th September, an average of 194 new cases per day and a weekly 1,357 new cases. For week of 12th to 18th September, cases are expected to increase to a daily average of 200 new cases and weekly 1,403.
South Africa is the leading Afrcan country in cases having a total of 56,823 cases, Morrocco 31,510 and Tunisia 13,914 for the periods of 29th August to 4th September respectively.
Lybia comes in 4th place followed by Ethiopia, Botswana, Kenya, Nigeria, Algeria and Rwanda taking 10th place.
On this note, the NPA advised on the control of boarder crossings to avoid Uganda having more infections coming into the country from its neighbouring countries.
“It is thus important to note that some of the immediate neighboring countries have higher
number of cases and they are increasing and there is need to strengthen the cross-border
movements restrictions and testing”. Muwanguzi said.
