Government in talks over bail, bond given to suspects

President Museveni has strongly condemned the act of giving police bond and bail by courts to suspects accused of murder.

This comes after politicians Allan Ssewanyana and Muhammad Ssegirinya were accused of murder and aiding murder in Masaka killings which made members of parliament to storm out of a session protesting the release of thier colleagues.

Addressing the nation at state lodge Nakasero on Friday night, the Uganda president emphasised that those who kill must also be killed adding that if u release a suspect before appearing in courts of law, he will go back and continue with the crimes he had commuted yet the person killed can not come back to life to defend himself.

“Stop bail being misused by using it to cover criminals”. He said.

Museveni cited a story in one of the local papers about cattle thieves terrorising kabarole District in the subcounties of kicwamba harugongo kazingo and hachibare adjusent to the tooro-semiliki game parks who were released on bond after being arrested for the crimes.

“I will not accept the issue of bond for police by police. In cases like these you give bond, I will discuss with the attorney General to see how we can stop this nonsense from the police side”. He said.

“Stop bail from being misused to cover for criminals”. He warned.
