Museveni advises art teachers to wait as government increases science teachers’ salary

President Museveni has advised art teachers to wait thier turn as science teachers get thier salary increment.

Officiating the ceremony to mark world Teachers day at Kololo airstrip, the president was asked to look at the art teachers as well on the issue of salary enhancement. Filbert Baguma, the secretary at Uganda National Teachers Union (UNATU) said that it is only fair to also look at the art teachers because the two go hand in hand.

“Sciences can not exist without the arts or humanities, the two fields must co-exist for example science is taught in English” he said.

In the presidents response, he said that it it only fair to start with the science teachers since thay are few in the country hence needing to be motivated.

“The way you are handling the issue of salaries have it discussed but please don’t obstruct our science led effort”. He warned.

On the issue of the rise in teenage pregnancies, the president said that it was better for one to get pregnant than losing a life adding that those talking about the subject as a big deal sound like children.

“Pregnancy? That means there are two people instead of one. When I hear these people talking I ask are these children or are they adults?. He asked.

“Don’t compare death with losing time, jobs, money, that is reversible but death is irreversible” he added.

Janet Kataaha Museveni, Minister of Education and first lady said that her ministry is in talks with the ministry of finance to see how they can recruit teachers and also be in position to pay them.
