Vehicle crashes into Christmas parade hitting over 20 people

A red Sport Utility Vehicle has rammed into a Christmas parade in the US state of Eisconsin hitting more than 20 people, including children causing some serious injuries.

The incident happened in the wee hours of Sunday evening about 32 kilometres west of Milwaukee.

Commenting on the incident, Waukesha Police Chief Dan Thompson said a person of interest was in custody and the suspect vehicle had been recovered.

“A red SUV drove onto our Christmas parade that we were holding downtown. More than 20 individuals were injured as a result of this incident,” Thompson told reporters.

However he could not tell the exact number of fatalities at the time.

A woman told Milwaukee’s Fox6 TV station that the SUV hit a girls’ dance team between the age of 9 and 15.
