Minister advocates for 7Bn more in grants for persons with disability

The Minister of State for persons with disabilities, Hon. Asamo Hellen Grace has asked for Government to increase the special grant for persons with disability to at least Ugx 16Billion.

while addressing the media in Kampala ahead of the International day for persons with disabilities, The Minister said that as part of affirmative action to capacitate people with disability, it will be good for an additional grant for the disabled in order to uplift themselves economically.

“My appeal to Government is to support my ministry and raise the budget of the grant to Ugx 16bn,” she said adding that it will help reach an additional 24000 households of about 36000 persons with disabilities who need support to start income-generating activities.

In the financial year, 2020/2021Ugx 5 billion grant was given to the disabled later on increasing it to 9.6 billion in the financial year 2021/2022.

The minister hoped for an increase in the next budget to at least an additional 7 billion to make a Total of 16 billion.
