Parliament on Tuesday asked the Government of Uganda to revive HIV/AIDs awareness campaigns especially among teenagers to prevent the high spread of the disease ahead of the World Aids Day that happens on December 1st every year.
This comes after a statement from the minister for presidency, Milly Babalanda in parliament addressing the high infection rates among adolescents.
The minister quoted statistics from the Ministry of Health saying that those on risk are in the brackets of 15-24 years, which accounts to about 34% with girls tripling in the infection rate in 2022 compared to last year.
A new report by the United Nations says that African countries are behind schedule on ending HIV/AIDs Infections as a Global target with and aim of at least ensuring that 90% of people living with HIV Know their status, 90% Diagnosed are on treatment and 90% taking drugs have received viral suppression.
