On Thursday, May 2nd, 2024, esteemed NBS TV News Anchor Hatmah Nalugwa Sekaaya officially concluded her role as a news anchor, marking the end of an illustrious 17-year tenure at both NTV Uganda and NBS TV. Nalugwa announced her departure via social media, sharing poignant photos from her farewell celebration.
“After 17 years of visiting you in your living rooms at 7 pm every day, I have made the decision to sign out of the newsroom,” Nalugwa expressed in her heartfelt message.
Expressing gratitude for the enriching experiences and meaningful connections forged throughout her career, she acknowledged that the time had come for a new chapter in her journey.
Nalugwa’s decision to transition from an on-air role to a news producer position was made public earlier in March, a choice driven by her desire to offer new graduates opportunities to thrive in the competitive realm of news anchoring.
Drawing from her extensive experience as a seasoned news anchor, Nalugwa recognized the challenges confronting young professionals seeking entry into the industry.
“I chose to change my path this year from being directly into your faces back to the kitchen. I would love to give other news anchors an opportunity because most of them are even better than me. It has been 17 years, and I needed a rest,” Nalugwa remarked in March.
Her departure has been met with admiration and appreciation from her fellow news anchors and colleagues at Next Media, who commend her dedicated service and wish her well in her future endeavors.
