The small village of Mukudde is reeling after the tragic discovery of a 15-year-old boy who was found hanged in his bedroom, in what appears to be a case of suicide.
Joel Mugumya, a Senior One student, was found lifeless in his bed, with a rope from a mosquito net believed to be the cause of death.
Brenda Namukisa, Mugumya’s mother, recounted the heartbreaking sequence of events. “I had left him with his siblings at home, but when I returned, I found him mopping the house when the food was not yet ready. I asked him to get me chicken from the fridge and started cooking. Later, his siblings called me to come and see what he was doing. That’s when I found him hanged,” she said, her voice filled with grief.
“I can’t believe this has happened to our family,” Namukisa added, struggling to contain her sorrow. “We had no idea he was going through any difficulties.”
The village is in mourning, with residents expressing shock and sadness at the loss of such a young life.
“Joel has been staying with his biological mother. We can’t understand what drove him to take this drastic step,” said Godfrey Ndduggwa, chairperson of Mukudde village.
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Joel’s death. Police spokesperson Twaha Kasirye stated, “We are investigating because we heard that this boy was staying with his biological mother and stepfather, Mike Ssenyonga.”
Kasirye emphasized the importance of communication between parents and their children. “We suspect that the boy might have been going through a difficult situation that led him to take this drastic step if he did it on his own. We encourage parents to talk to their children and seek help if they notice any signs of distress.”
As the investigation continues, the community is left grappling with the loss and searching for ways to support one another through this difficult time.
