Fr. Dominic Alinga, a Catholic priest, has been arrested for the brutal murder of John Bosco Ngorok, a tax collection officer with the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA). The incident, driven by a financial dispute, has left the community reeling.
According to circulating messages on various WhatsApp groups, Fr. Dominic Alinga called his friend John Bosco to finalize the repayment of a Shs11 million loan that John Bosco had lent him.
Fr. Dominic went to John Bosco’s home and suggested they travel to Entebbe to settle the matter. As they approached the UN Base in Entebbe, Fr. Dominic reportedly pulled out a sharp machete and attacked John Bosco, stabbing him multiple times.
John Bosco was rushed to Entebbe Grade B Hospital but succumbed to his injuries due to severe blood loss.
“Yesterday was a dark day for us as a family. Upon hearing the news of our comrade, our colleague, the man who had no problem with anyone, a very hardworking man, time manager, timekeeper, just as the supervisor has stated. So, JB is no more, and it is confirmed JB is no more,” a fellow Tax Collection Officer at URA shared.
### The Chase and Capture
After the attack, Fr. Dominic attempted to flee. However, a boda boda rider who had picked up the injured John Bosco witnessed the priest ramming Bosco’s car into the motorcycle, knocking them down. Fr. Dominic then fled on foot.
The UN security team intervened, transporting both John Bosco and the boda boda rider to the hospital. Despite his injuries, John Bosco managed to make a crucial phone call to his mother, identifying Fr. Dominic as his assailant.
“John Bosco pulled out his phone, called his mother in the village, and told her, ‘Mommy, Mommy, Father Dominic has stabbed me, Father Dominic has stabbed me. If I die, Father Dominic has stabbed me,’” the message recounted.
John Bosco succumbed to his injuries despite efforts by medical staff at Entebbe Grade B Hospital.
### The Arrest
On Monday, August 5, Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed Fr. Dominic’s arrest.
He stated that the police are committed to uncovering the full circumstances surrounding this tragic incident and ensuring justice is served.
“The police are committed to uncovering the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident,” Owoyesigyire emphasized, urging anyone with information to come forward.
“Uganda Police wishes to announce that the key suspect in this murder has been arrested. He is Dominic Alinga, a priest at the Catholic parish church of Irir in Nakapiripirit,” Kituuma added.
Fr. Alinga had been suspended from the church by the bishop on allegations of stealing offertory worth six million Ugandan shillings. This suspension, which led to his excommunication, adds a dark layer to his involvement in the recent crime.
The investigation into Alinga’s connection with the murder of Ngorok is ongoing. Police are working to piece together the events leading up to the fatal stabbing.
“Once complete, the police will determine whether to arraign him before the court,” the police spokesperson concluded.
