In the bustling streets of Kampala, where music flowed like a river and politics often surged in tumultuous waves, two icons stood out: Eddy Kenzo, the acclaimed musician known for his dance hits and international fame, and Bobi Wine, the charismatic pop star turned politician.
Both men had once been friends, united by their love for music and their dreams for a better Uganda. However, their paths diverged, leading to a public rift that captivated the nation.
Recently, National Unity Platform President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, known as Bobi Wine, has been urging musicians to voice their concerns against corruption and the current fragile state of affairs in the country. Several musicians, including Azawi, A Pass, Ykee Benda, Nina Rose, and Big Eye, have condemned corruption and advocated for the March to Parliament against it.
However, Eddy Kenzo, whose wife is a minister, revealed that he will not be pressured to support Bobi Wine or incite people to demonstrate in the streets of Kampala against corruption.
Eddy Kenzo, born Edrisah Musuuza, rose from the slums to become a global sensation. His song “Sitya Loss” propelled him onto the world stage, earning him awards and accolades. Despite his success, Kenzo remained grounded, often returning to his roots to support the underprivileged communities he came from. He believes in music’s power to inspire and uplift as his tool for change.
On the other hand, Bobi Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, transitioned from music to politics, positioning himself as a voice for the oppressed. His People Power movement resonates with many Ugandans tired of the long-standing regime. Bobi Wine’s bravery in facing political repression has made him a hero to many, but it has also made him a target.
The tension between the two began subtly, with whispers and speculations. Fans noticed that Eddy Kenzo, who had previously shown support for Bobi Wine’s music career, was conspicuously silent about his political ambitions. As Bobi Wine’s political star rose, many expected Kenzo to join the chorus of support from fellow artists and celebrities. Instead, Kenzo chose to remain neutral, focusing on his music and charitable endeavors.
