“Eddy Kenzo stop confusing musicians We Want Copyright Not Money” – Nina Roz Backs Azawi’s Statements To Government

Talented musician Kakunda Nina, popularly known as Nina Roz, has supported fellow artist Azawi’s stance regarding government funds for the entertainment sector.

Nina Roz emphasized that musicians do not need government money as they strive to earn sufficiently on their own. Instead, they seek robust copyright laws to enhance their earnings.

The debate between musicians and the government over the need for a comprehensive copyright law has been ongoing. Artists have been urged to form associations and federations to unify their voices.

Over a year ago, Eddy Kenzo established the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) with high hopes from many artists that he would champion the copyright law, as he promised. Kenzo even met with President Museveni to discuss this issue.

However, instead of focusing on the copyright law, Eddy Kenzo accepted government funds on behalf of musicians, claiming the money was intended to help artists start businesses.

This move sparked discontent among some musicians, who either did not receive the funds or rejected them outright, arguing that financial aid was not what they sought.

Nina Roz has called on Eddy Kenzo and the UNMF to stop confusing musicians and to prioritize the fight for copyright laws.

We want copyright, not money and handouts from the government. We know our worth, and all I can say is that artists need copyright more than money,” she asserted.
