The Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) President, Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has proudly graduated with a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) from Cavendish University.
Kyagulanyi, who was a former Presidential Candidate, received his degree during the university’s 13th graduation ceremony held on Thursday, August 8th, at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.
The ceremony was presided over by the university’s chancellor, former Nigerian President H.E. Goodluck Jonathan, who conferred degrees upon Bobi Wine and hundreds of other graduates across various programs.
Shortly after the ceremony, Bobi Wine took to social media via his official X handle to reflect on the challenges he faced in securing his degree, a journey that spanned seven years.
He began his law studies at the International University of East Africa (IUEA) in 2016, but later transferred to Cavendish University. The decision to transfer came on the advice of his party’s Secretary General, Lewis Rubongoya, due to IUEA’s lack of full accreditation to teach law at the time.
In his post, Bobi Wine expressed gratitude to Rubongoya, writing, “Dear David Lewis Rubongoya, from the first Constitutional Law lecture you conducted in 2016 at IUEA, I knew you were a comrade.
It was your idea to transfer from IUEA to Cavendish University, which was already accredited, to avoid future problems. I’m glad I listened and enrolled afresh. Thank you for standing with me throughout the course.”
Despite the excitement surrounding his graduation, Kyagulanyi also recounted the efforts made by his detractors to impede his progress. As news of his graduation spread, he revealed that some individuals, allegedly working for the regime, petitioned the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) to scrutinize his academic records.
“Some people, ostensibly working for the regime and other detractors, went as far as petitioning the National Council for Higher Education.
NCHE officials went to the University and demanded every document regarding my studies, including my application form, admission forms, all class attendance records, written exams, coursework of all the years, and my tuition payment records!” Bobi Wine shared.
Despite these challenges, Bobi Wine successfully completed his law degree, marking a significant milestone in his personal and professional journey.
