Uganda urges regestration of births in celebration of the Africa civil registration and vital statistics day

Uganda joins other African counties to mark the Africa civil registration and vital statistics day celebrated every 10th August annually aimed at increasing awareness on the importance of timely registration of events particularly births and deaths.

Mrs Mary Kisembo the Executive Director at NIRA Uganda while addressing the press in Kampala said that they are going to use this opportunity to do an online registration of children who have been born during the week and have steps of how one can go about the procedure.

“Tell us of your bundle of joy at the earliest opportunity after you give birth by going to our website” she said in part.

The birth certificate issued to an individual according to Mrs Mary, includes but not limited to the name of child, his or he parent’s names and National Identification Numbers(NIN) and place of birth, nationality.

Mrs Mary noted that the certification is made at a cost of 5000 Uganda shillings.

The Executive Director also informed the public that NIRA will bring services closer to the people starting 9th-13th August 2021.

To register a child, one should go to the NIRA website www.nira.go.ug
