Zambia’s opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema has been sworn into office Tuesday morning after a land slide victory against Edgar Langu.
The billionaire also known as HH was ready to receive instruments of power at the packed Hero’s Stadium in the capital of Lusaka.
“As I sit here in our vehicle being driven to Heroes Stadium, I see the love, the joy and the jubilation as people line the streets on our way. I’m overwhelmed with gratitude. I love you all so much,” heĀ said according to CCN website.
The unforgiving crowed booed Edgar Langu as he conceded defeat and appeared to hand over to Langu.
Many African leaders congratulated the newly elected Zambia president saying that other African countries ought to emulate Zambia and have the opposition take over power too.
“This is a significant and fantastic for what is possible for the future of Africa. Zambia is an inspiration to stubborn laggards in democracy. Strong institutions are key for effective power transfer and smooth transitions,” Nelson Chamisa, opposition leader in Zimbabwe, told CNN in a statement when asked about the significance of today’s inauguration.
