I am not a ghost- First covid 19 relief aid recipient Oloya speaks out

After alot of speculation on whether the first famous phone call made by Prime minister of Uganda Nabbanja to a local boda boda man in Nothern Uganda in relation to the covid19 relief 100,000, was actually true, Geoffrey Oloya who is said to have been the first covid-19 recipient has come out to clear the air on the issue.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development dated 7th September 2021, Oloya appeared before the Gulu city authorities to clear the falsehoods that labelled him as a ghost recipient of the fund and that he was a non resident and not known in Gulu.

“After hearing of all the bad publicity around him, Oloya today morning presented himself to authorities in his division of residence to set the facts right the statement read. He confirmed to having received the famous call and cash from the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister.

On why he had taken long to come out and clear the air, Oloya said that he was too busy in his garden in Nyamukino village, Lumulu sub County in Nwoya district where he says the network was very poor hence his line being unreachable.

“I felt so embarrassed because I am a vulnerable person and do boda boda riding within Gulu city”. He explained after revealing that he heard of the rumours from Mps who had gone to Gulu.

Oloya said that he followed procedures to get the money just like any other Ugandan and had used the fund to but seed to sow and that’s when the “unfortunate” news found him.

Government had proposed a Ugx100,000 to be given to every vulnerable Ugandan to help them get some food during the covid19 lockdown although the process of identification of the said beneficiaries was questionable.
