Ministry of Health plans massive covid vaccination, over 1million vaccinated out of a target of over 21 million.

The ministry of Health has recorded a total of 1,697,748 persons who have revived a covid shot out of the targeted 21,936,011.

While updating the country on the covid 19 response and vaccination state in Uganda, Emmanuel Ainebyoona the ministry’s senior spokesperson appealed to district leaders to review thier vaccination plan to ensure all vaccines are used up and not left to waste.

“It is therefore urgent that all districts speed up proper utilization of available doses so the country doesn’t lose doses through expiry hence denting the consumption commitments made at global level”. He said.

Ainebyoona revealed that with phase 1 vaccination plan almost complete having atleast 71.6% Health workers getting the first dose and 35.5% getting the second, 58.2% security workers getting first dose and 19.4% getting 2nd dose, teachers at 43.3% with the first dose and 16.2% 2nd dose and 8.8% of the elderly getting the first dose and 3.7% getting the second, phase 2 will include all those aged 18 years and above who were not prioritised in phase 1 while phase 3 will target children below 18 years using the approved vaccines.

Among the worst performing districts in Uganda included Terego in west Nile topping the chart with a cumulative uptake of 33.9% followed by Bunyangabo with 43.2%, Buvuma at 44.0% with Karenga in karamoja region performimg better in the worst regions with 54.7% uptake.

The best performing regions included Busoga with a cumulative uptake of 107.9%, South central kyotera district 106.8%, kigezi 106.4 and North Central at the bottom of the best performing regions at 91.6%.

The PRO said that the expiry date for the latest vaccine to be distributed is 30th September 2021 and assure the public that the vaccines offered at the various designated centers are safe and effective.

An esteemate of 4 million doses of Covid 19 vaccines are expected between September and October 2021
