The president of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has directed the ease of lockdown in some sectors that were previously closed due to a surge in the covid 19 cases.
Addressing the nation Wednesday night at state lodge Nakasero, Museveni said that he has eased the measures in regard to the National Task Force review of sectors that were pending lifting of restrictions.
Places of worship are to open on condition that worshipers are limited to not more than 200 provided the place of worship can ensure physical distancing of 2 meters on either side and adequate aeration, observance of all SOPs at times, partner with government to communicate and mobilize population for vaccination and other control measures. The 200 limit, he said, and all other SOPs will be respected even on special occasions such as weddings, baptism etc.
“No congregation after curfew hours”. He warned.
Casinos, settings shops, gyms and gaming were allowed to operate during the day and close by 6:00pm.
The president directed Beaches, disco halls, bars, performing artists and concerts to be closed until at least 4.8 million priority population is vaccinated because the above sectors “tend to congregate large numbers and are difficult to control”.
Bibanda/ local cinemas were directed to remain closed due to the poor ventilation they have.
Weekly markets to open except for the current hotspot districts ie soroti, Kampala, Kalungu, Kabaka, Kumi, Tororo, Gulu, Nwoya and Yumbe.
Schools to remain closed until students aged 18 and above, teaching and non teaching staff are vaccinated.
Post secondary institutions to open with effect from 1st November 2021 on condition that all teaching and non teaching staff are vaccinated and the students vaccinated.
“The rest of the learning institutions will open in january”. He said.
