more than two-thirds of the world has now abolished the death penalty in law or practice according to Amnesty International.

With a total of 108 countries abolishing the death penalty for all crimes, 28 completely abolished it killing no one over the past 10 years but 55 countries retaining it for ordinary crimes.

Iran, Egypt, Iraq and Saudi Arabia leading respectively accounted for 88 percent of known executions in 2020.

The two Common methods used in 2020 For execution include hanging and shooting, used in 15 different countries.

Other methods include lethal injection common in the United States with exception of other states that prefer electrocution, gas chamber, hanging and firing squad. Saudi Arabia predominantly uses beheading with a sword.
