the Uganda Bureau of Statistics has said that parts of Uganda are facing high food prices.
according to the bureau, high prices were attributed to shortage of food in some areas. Among the items whose prices have increased include Matooke, sweet potatoes and Posho.
Nakayenga Juliet a researcher at UNBS said that hiked transport costs are some of the factors that have led to high foodp rices.
“we measure food in kilograms” she explained.
“the areas with high prices include Arua with 2.6% high prices compared to the previous 1.7% followed by places with high class dwellers in Kampala and the low class dwellers still maintaining the same price of 2%.
since the lockdown, transport became expensive with traders having to incur almost twice the amont of money in transporting their goods hence charging the final consumer a little more.
