A camp of a group of Chinese was attacked by the army at 2 am in a village located about 25km from Fizi-center said Major Dieudonne Kasereka the regional spokesperson.
“there were 14 in total. five we’re taken away by the assailants to an unknown destination” he said adding that the other 9 were evacuated to safty.
Colonel David Epanga, the commander of the DRC armed forces regiment in Fizi said that one police man was killed and another wounded during the attack.
The Chinese who were abducted were staff of a company that had been operating a gold mine in the area for 4-5 months, said Lusambva Wanumbe the president Fizi civil society.
Wanumbe said the attack was sparked off by workers accusing the company of poor standards set by the company
