Following an increase in covid cased during the previous week, the Ministry of Health has set up guidelines for those who us e public transport in a bid to minimize on the rate of transmission of the corona virus.
Speaking the media in Kampala, the minister in charge of health, Dr Ruth Acheng put forward guidelines for the passengers using public transport following the President’s directive on enforcing the vaccination mandate for the transport sector.
In her guidelines, Dr. Acheng said that all passengers aged 18 years and above must be able to present proof of vaccination with at least the first doze before they can be allowed to access passenger service vehicles (PSV) around the country and passengers will be expected to present their vaccination certificates showing full vaccination status by the end of of march “since adequate time has been given to receive the second dose”.
Passengers who are below the age of 18 will be allowed to travel in the PSV given that they do not fall among the 22 million people who are targeted for the covid 19 vaccination.
All travelers must adhere to the SOPs as the ministry works on a system to validate vaccination cards of all those vaccinated by the ministry of Health therefore enabling the Ministry apprehend those who attempt to falsify or forge their vaccination statuses.
According the Ministry, the covid19 positivity rates rose consistently since December 11th 2021 from a weekly average positivity rate of 0.9% to 3.9% in the second week of December 2021 to 11.4% in the third week of December 2021 and 23.3% in the fourth week of December 2021 moving to January.
