Kabaka Ronald Edward Frederick Kimera Muwenda Mutebi II, the reigning King of Buganda Kingdom has been gifted with his late father’s Rolls Royce Phantom V on his 67th birthday that was held in the Kingdom gardens in Mengo on 17th july 2022.
The restoration of the classic Vehicle that cost the kingdom about 500 million (approximately 132,000 dollars) was used by kabaka Sir Edward Mutebi Luwangula Mutesa II for presidential purposes mostly since he was not only king but also the first president of Uganda by 9 October 1963 a year after the country had gotten her independence.
taking a close look at the Rolls Royce Phantom V British luxury car, You will find out that this is an exceptionally special car starting form its box bodied look.
doors
how does a regular car door open? well you know the answer but for the Rolls Royce, the doors open in a different direction with its suicide doors (doors hinged at its rear rather than the front) letting your friends look amazed by the look of it.
Ignition
forget putting the keys in the key hole near the steering wheel. this vintage car has its ignition built on the dashboard so its not a normal car as you think.
Engine.
The 6.23 V8 engine produces around 200 horse-power with at least 4000 revolutions per minute (RPM). Acceleration is 0-60 miles per hour in just 11.2 seconds with a top speed of 120 miles per hour which compared to the 60’s was really big. In comparison with with the 2020 V8s we see these days we can see that there is little they have that gives them an upper hand because as much as the Rolls Royce is 220 horse power strong, the V8 is 381 just a difference of161 horsepower and remember, we are comparing a 60’s to a ’20s model meaning we are talking of a 50 years difference yet not so much in terms in tech.
Transmission.
The vintage car comes with an automatic transmission just like other cars but the unique thing about it is it has a special gear that makes the car move walking speed slow which is good for ceremonies.
verdict
The 60’s rolls is so stylish and comfortable that it may beat some modern cars. fitted with Leather seats, wooden interior and suicidal doors, there is no question about it, the Rolls Royce Phantom V is a world class apart.
