Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Betty Nambooze Bakireke has returned to the United States for further medical treatment and tourism.
The MP traveled to the States on Saturday evening together with the husband, Henry Bakireke as her personal aide and assistant.
The trip, sponsored by Government of Uganda is meant to see that the MP gets the desired medical treatment for her back and other alleged illnesses presumably caused by state violence.
However, several opinion leaders allege that the MP is not sick but only uses the chance to get money from Government.
Nambooze, who is at logger heads with the Buganda Kingdom administration in Mengo currently is expected to use more than Ugx 1 billion.
The traveling confirms allegations by Kimaanya Kabonera MP Abedi Bwanika who recently said, the MP has always been treated on government money, with clear documentation but does not want other people, especially the recently released MPs Ssegirinya Muhammad (Kawempe North) and Allan Ssewanyana (Makindye West) to negotiate with Government for their release.
Bwanika said, Nambooze, together with other senior legislators at Parliament negotiated with Government, through the Speaker of Parliament to have the MP taken for treatment, a claim Nambooze denies.
Bwanika also provided documentation of how much the MP, her husband benefited from the trip that lasted more than six months.
Highly placed sources close to the MP say, the return of Ms Nambooze and her husband to the United States is also part of a plot for the NUP team to appoint her in absentia as the next Leader of Opposition in Parliament.
“It is now clear, Kamwokya and Magere are looking at Nambooze as their next LOP and that’s the main reason she was asked to sack all her aides at Parliament, replace them with other people ready for acquaintance and service when the MP is appointment LOP,” the source said.
It is not clear how long the MP will be in the United States. However, the MP has also taken two of her daughter to the United States for further education.
