KITALO! Truck driver and assistant killed in Njeru head-on crash

The truck driver and assistant killed in Njeru head-on crash. A truck driver and his assistant (turnboy) have been killed in a Friday morning head-on crash involving two vehicles on the Jinja-Kampala highway in Njeru town, Buikwe district.

Police said the truck driver, who was yet to be identified, veered into the lane of oncoming traffic, leading to the deadly collision.

The Fuso Fighter (UBB 716F), moving from Jinja towards Kampala, then collided with a fuel tanker (UAY 077A/UAY 928A) heading in the opposite direction.

In a statement, Ssezibwa region Police spokesperson Hellen Butoto said the crash happened at around 5:20 am in Kitigoma village.

The fuel truck driver and his assistant survived and were rushed to Jinja Hospital “in critical condition for medical treatment”.

Both vehicles were still at the scene awaiting towing while inquiries were being conducted, Police said. The mangled remains of the two huge vehicles provided a graphic illustration of just how serious the crash was.

The crash affected the traffic on the route, as onlookers watched Police and volunteers attempt to clear the roadway.
