REGRETTABLE EXPERIENCE: How Keko wasted five years of her life with Sony Music

Six years ago, Uganda’s music scene was graced by the presence of a remarkable talent, Jocelyne Tracey Keko. She was undoubtedly one of the best female hip-hop artists in the country. However, like many artists, her path was fraught with challenges that led her to relocate to Canada.

During her time away, rumors of drug abuse and addiction tainted her image, and a controversial episode at the Coke Studio in Nairobi seemingly marked the end of her reign.

Now, Jocelyne Tracey Keko has returned, and this time, it’s for good. Canada granted her residence and permanent resident status, compelling her to stay longer than initially planned. During her stay, she seized the opportunity to further her education, enrolling at the Toronto Film School for two years.

There, she honed her skills in film production, and by 2019, she had graduated. However, as she was preparing to return home, the world was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, forcing her to extend her stay once more.

But her time away from Uganda had served its purpose. It was a time of personal growth and self-discovery. Jocelyne felt an undeniable call to return to her roots and focus on her music and film career.

Her dreams were too precious to be abandoned, and she was determined not to give up on them. Today, she stands as a testament to resilience and redemption, ready to reclaim her place in Uganda’s vibrant artistic landscape.
