As the news settled, the Uganda Medical Association (UMA) delivered another heartbreaking announcement last night, confirming the passing of another medical student at Mulago Hospital.

The departed, Dr. Stephen Kasule, was a dedicated intern at Mulago National Referral Hospital, described by the medical association as “a humble, young, and dedicated doctor.” A recent graduate of Uganda Christian University (UCU) Mukono, Dr. Kasule succumbed to Sickle Cell disease on Thursday.

Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing in Mbarara to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of Dr. Abura. According to Halson Kagure, spokesman for Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, Dr. Abura, who was pursuing a Masters Degree in Anesthesiology at Mbarara University of Science and Technology, suddenly became unconscious. Emergency responders found her lifeless by the time they reached her residence. The 30-year-old doctor, originally from Lira District, was attached to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Tragically, on November 14, Dr. Pius Rwamafa, a second-year Master of Medicine student at Makerere University, also passed away. Described as a humble and committed individual, Dr. Rwamafa was not only a student but also a Physician at Mulago National Referral Hospital, specializing in the TB and HIV ward.
