Controversial artist Alien Skin recently disclosed that he turned down a collaboration with singer and politician Bobi Wine, a decision that reportedly strained his relationship with the People Power camp.
It’s worth noting that Alien Skin gained prominence through his powerful and relatable music that resonated with the ghetto.
Often compared to Bobi Wine, many saw him as a potential successor to the void left by the “ghetto gladiator” in the music industry. Even Bobi Wine himself acknowledged Alien Skin’s talent, citing the Fangon Forest boss’s “Lockdown” song as his favorite.
According to Alien Skin, he received an invitation from Bobi Wine, delivered through his associates like Yung Mulo, to collaborate in Kamwokya. However, the singer hesitated, fearing that such a collaboration might overshadow Bobi Wine, the Firebase boss.
Expressing his rationale, Alien Skin mentioned that declining the offer was in his best interest. He believed that collaborating with the Kyarenga singer would have accelerated his career too rapidly, leaving him with limited options for future collaborations.
In Alien Skin’s own words, “Bobi Wine complimented me and expressed his love for my music. His boys even approached me to hit the studio with him, but I refused. It wouldn’t have been good for my career to skip too many steps.
Imagine if I did a song with the Principal; who would be left for me to collaborate with? Besides, I choose who I want to sing with. NUP tried various tactics to entice me into their fold, even going as far as dubbing me ‘ghetto president,’ but I refused to get involved in politics.”
Furthermore, Alien Skin revealed that he turned down an invitation to participate in the Labisa song, anticipating that it would delve into political territory – a prediction that proved accurate.
He also disclosed that a similar refusal to collaborate with the Malamusinger led to an altercation with Pallaso. Additionally, Alien Skin turned down an offer from Diamond Platinumz for the same reasons, as he believed that collaborating with an artist of such stature would imply a decline in his own standing, especially considering Diamond Platinumz’s previous collaborations with renowned artists like Davido and Patoranking.
