Tragedy Strikes as German Tourist dies in Kabale Road Accident

In a devastating incident near Kabaraga Hills in Kabale District, a 58-year-old German tourist lost his life, while two of his companions sustained severe injuries. The fatal accident occurred when the driver of their vehicle lost control, resulting in a collision with a speeding Fuso lorry on Saturday morning.

The Kigezi region police spokesperson, Elly Maate, reported that the tragic event took place around 9 am at Kabaraga Village in Kyanamira Sub-county. The deceased was identified as Dr. Wendsche Ralf, a German national of the Deutsch tribe.

The injured individuals are a 48-year-old German tourist named Silk Venus and their 60-year-old Ugandan driver, Morgan Nyombi, a resident of Murungu-Munyonyo in Kampala.

The vehicle involved in the accident belonged to Kibo Slopes Uganda Ltd. According to the police, the tourist Toyota Land Cruiser was en route from Bwindi Gorilla Valley in Kigezi region to Kampala.

The collision occurred at Kabaraga corner in the Kabaraga hills along the Kabale-Mbarara Highway when a speeding Fuso Fighter lorry struck it on the driver’s side.

Tragically, one tourist, Dr. Wendsche Ralf, succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while Silk Venus and the driver suffered serious injuries.

The Kigezi regional police commander, ACP Ibrahim Saiga, the regional traffic officer, SP Fabian Betubiza, and other law enforcement officers visited the accident site.

Subsequently, the injured were transported to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for treatment, and the deceased’s body was taken to the hospital’s mortuary.

The fatal accident was officially registered at Kabale police station, and the wreckage was towed to the same facility for inspection by the inspector of vehicles.

The incident underscores the ongoing road safety concerns in Uganda, where an average of four people lose their lives daily in road accidents.
