The Kabale community is grappling with the heartbreaking loss of Gloria Uwimana, a 47-year-old woman whose life ended under controversial circumstances, as police launch an investigation into the tragic incident.
Gloria, a devoted Masters degree student at Uganda Martyrs University and wife to Emmanuel Arineitwe, resided with her family in Kamukira cell, Kirigime ward, Southern Division, Kabale municipality, Kabale district.
Reports suggest that Gloria’s husband became suspicious when she woke up at 6 am, prompting him to inquire about her early morning activities. She explained that she had coursework to complete and submit at the campus, before moving from their bedroom to the sitting room.
Several hours later, when Emmanuel awoke around 08:40 hours, he found only his wife’s phone and eyeglasses on the table in the sitting room. Concerned, he questioned their daughter, Kirabo Faith, who informed him that Gloria had gone to her shop.
Tragically, Emmanuel received a call from Augustine Muwanika, a tenant, notifying him that Gloria had taken her own life by hanging in their business house.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police publicist, confirmed that the police were alerted and a Homicide team visited the scene to document the incident. Statements were taken from witnesses, and Gloria’s body was transferred to Kabale regional referral hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination, which confirmed death by hanging.
Expressing deep concern, Maate emphasized the importance of seeking counseling services rather than resorting to such drastic measures, condemning the act of ending one’s own life.
As investigations continue, the Kabale community mourns the loss of Gloria Uwimana and awaits answers surrounding the tragic events leading to her untimely death.
