Five tourists are receiving treatment at Anaka General Hospital in Nwoya District, Northern Uganda, following a road crash on Saturday evening.
The injured include three American women and two Ugandan nationals. Police have identified the survivors as Ms. Emily Loper, 27; Ms. Jenifer Nasozi, 52; Ms. Hillary Ott Lodges, 48; Ms. Clayton Lopelo, 24; and Ms. Claris Mwesigwa.
The accident occurred around 4 PM in Latoro Village, Got Apwoyo Sub County. The group was traveling in a Toyota Hiace vehicle, registration number UBL 104F, returning to Kampala from Murchison Falls National Game Park.
According to Mr. David Ongom Mudong, Aswa West Police Spokesperson, the driver is currently on the run. “Preliminary reports indicate that the vehicle hit a pothole, causing the driver to lose control and overturn, resulting in injuries to the occupants,” Mr. Mudong stated.
The vehicle’s wreckage has been towed to Nwoya Central Police Station. Reckless driving has been cited as the cause of the crash.
Murchison Falls National Game Park is renowned for its diverse wildlife, including numerous bird species, aquatic animals, and plant life.
