Born Israel Mbonyicyambu, he developed a passion for music early in life. Growing up in Musanze, Ruhangeri City, Rwanda, he received musical training from a local teacher.
Out of a class of 30 students, Mbonyi was the only one who completed the course, mastering the guitar and laying the foundation for his future musical career.
Mbonyi’s first song, “Number One,” was released on March 10, 2014, coinciding with the launch of his debut album of the same name. The album featured eight tracks, including “Yankuyeho Urubanza,” “Ku Migezi,” “Nzibyo Nibwira,” “Ku Musaraba,” “Ndanyuzwe,” “Hari Impamvu,” and “Agasambi.”
Sung primarily in Kinyarwanda, these songs resonated deeply with listeners, establishing Mbonyi as a significant figure in gospel music.
In 2023, Israel Mbonyi expanded his musical reach by releasing his first Swahili song, “Nina Siri,” on June 26. This hit single introduced him to a broader East African audience, particularly in Tanzania and Kenya, marking his entry into the regional and international music scene. The song’s success propelled Mbonyi to new heights, earning him widespread acclaim and a growing fan base.
The upcoming concerts in Kampala and Mbarara offer fans a unique opportunity to experience Israel Mbonyi’s electrifying performances live.
