The presidential CEO forum has been set to deliberate on transforming Gulu into an industrial hub expected to convene over 1,000 Indigenous CEOs from the Northern Region of Uganda, and the Development partners, MDA’s representation, Political leaders, Cultural and Religious leaders from Northern Uganda , in a bid of marking a pivotal moment in fostering private sector engagement and economic development.
Under the theme “Battle to Green Field: Transforming Northern Uganda into a Commercialized Production and Logistical Hub for Exports”, the forum is expected to accelerate the region’s potential to become a cornerstone of Uganda’s economic landscape. With a
focus on agricultural and logistical advancements, this theme underscores the Forum’s commitment to sustainable growth and inclusive prosperity.
Speaking to the media in Kampala on Tuesday morning, Mr. Emmanuel Katongole the Chairman Board of Directors of the
Presidential CEO Forum said that the event will bring together Uganda’s business leaders from the region, policymakers, and
visionaries to chart the path towards a vibrant and resilient economic future for Northern Uganda.
According to a 2019 World bank report, Agriculture in Uganda contributes a quarter of the national gross domestic product (GDP), and employs 70% of the population however a 2022 UBOS report shows that the sector is growing at a slow pace – way below its potential, with annual output growth at only 2% over the last five years. In comparison, East African Community members have seen annual output growth as high as 5%. However, in that same period, Uganda’s population has grown at 3.3% per annum.
