Police have confirmed the identity of a woman tragically murdered while jogging along the Northern Bypass on Sunday. The victim has been identified as Agnes Nantongo, the Manager of African Oil Petrol Station, according to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango.
The shocking incident occurred in Kamuli A’ Zone, Kireka, sparking concern among joggers who frequent the area. Onyango reported that Nantongo was last seen leaving her workplace on Saturday at around 7:00 PM, wearing the same clothes found on her body the next morning.
“At around 8:00 AM, passersby alerted authorities to a lifeless woman lying in a roadside shrub,” Onyango said, adding that police quickly responded and launched an investigation.
Authorities are now conducting inquiries to determine the circumstances surrounding Nantongo’s death.
Unfortunately, this incident follows a series of similar attacks. In July 2022, James Kakooza, a 54-year-old local councillor in Kamwokya, Kampala, was murdered while jogging near Centenary Park.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesman Luke Owoyesigire reported that Kakooza was struck with a blunt object by two men on a motorcycle who then fled the scene.
Earlier this year, former Assistant Bishop of Kampala, Bishop Zac Niringiye, was also attacked while jogging in Ntinda. Niringiye, aged 70, survived the assault, which involved a man on a motorcycle striking him on the back of the head.
The Uganda Police Force is urging anyone with information regarding Agnes Nantongo’s murder to contact Kireka police station or any nearby police post to assist in their investigation.
