Uganda Police are actively searching for popular TikTok personality Aunt Kaduuka, born Nakimanya Hellen, who is facing serious allegations of scamming millions of shillings from unsuspecting victims. Kaduuka reportedly lured people, particularly casual workers from the Gulf countries, with promises to set up small retail shops for them in Uganda.
Using her social media platforms, especially TikTok, Aunt Kaduuka presented herself as a motivational speaker and entrepreneur, urging followers to trust her with their money.
She claimed to start small shops for them, which they could operate once they returned to Uganda. Many believed her and sent substantial sums, hoping to find established businesses waiting for them.
In a series of videos, Aunt Kaduuka showcased what appeared to be small retail shops, further convincing her victims that she was trustworthy. Unfortunately, these efforts were part of a well-crafted scam.
At a recent press briefing, Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire confirmed that police have received over ten reports against Kaduuka, accusing her of obtaining money under false pretenses. Authorities are currently investigating the matter, with some reports suggesting that she may have fled the country. However, confirmation from immigration authorities is still pending.
Owoyesigire revealed that the police station in Bweyogerere alone had over ten active cases against Aunt Kaduuka, and further investigations are underway to determine if additional complaints have been filed at other stations.
The scam came to light after several victims reached out to social media influencer and blogger Rhitah Kaggwa. They provided evidence of payments made via mobile money, and Kaggwa claims that the total amount scammed could be upwards of 500 million Ugandan shillings.
As investigations continue, police are urging the public to report any further information that could help in locating Kaduuka and bringing justice to the victims.
