Hannah Njoki from Naivasha painfully narrates how she had an affair with her father-in-law while she was still married to her husband. According to her she didn’t know that both of them were infected with H1V. She has lived with the dilemma of not knowing who infected her between them.
Hannah was born and raised by a single mother of four. Got married when she was seventeen years. Her husband was older than her but she still loved him. He took her to his family where she met a loving and caring father-in-law.
She said that they were blessed with their first child and they loved farming however their first produce wasn’t good and her husband had to look for a job. She left Hannah to take care of their house including his father.
She said that her father-in-law would marry different women but non of them would stay he would chase them away. He always claimed that Hannah cooked better than them. She used to serve him both breakfast and dinner in his house which was in the same compound with their house.
She said that one morning as she served him breakfast he asked her to join him and after having some tea she felt dizzy and passed out. She woke up without clothes and her father-in-law had entered her. He threatened to kill her if she reported him.
She said that this became a habit and she would sleep with him daily and also sleep with her husband when he came home on weekends. One day She received a phone call from one of her father-in-law ex-lover.
She told Emma that she had left him after realizing that he was H1V positive. She also claimed that she had slept with her husband and also infected him with H1V before Hannah got married to her husband.
She said that she called her husband and informed him what she was told and surprisingly he confessed that he was H1V positive. Hannah was in shock and she went for a H1V test that turned out to be positive.
She has adviced women to get tested before getting intimate with anyone and Incase they get raped they should visit a hospital and also report the case to the police.
