The dancers have performed for the Qatar Royal Family, FIFA president Ginani Infantino, among other top football dignitaries in Doha. Triplets Ghetto Kids made the performances ahead of the kick-off slated for Sunday, November 18 with the host nation taking on Ecuador in the opener.
In sharing the video of the group’s dance performance on Instagram, the Triplets Ghetto Kids wrote: “Wow! it qas An amazing Night Performing Before the Royal Family, the FIFA President and different Ministers Of Qatar”.
The Ugandan dancers got the deal after making a fun video about the World Cup which went viral. In the video shot in Kampala slums, the dancers made a mimic of the World Cup capturing the sporting spirit of the tournament.
The dance video went viral online as it garnered over 2.5 million views on Facebook alone. This also got Qatar Tourism’s interest who left a comment on their Instagram: “We can’t wait to see you in Qatar.”
Qatar tourism board took interest in the video and extended the Ugandan group an invite to Qatar where they toured the country, and met footballing dignitaries and football legends. They also toured World Cup stadiums and were given gifts and souvenirs by the World Cup organizers.
They then signed performance deals that captured the interest of the world. The team thus traveled back to Qatar and as they say, the rest is history. While Uganda is not represented at the World Cup, the Ghetto Kids have since hoisted the national flag in Qatar in a precursor event for the tournament.
Triplets Ghetto Kids have been highlighted by recognized international outlets and got massive media interest as they won several awards including AFRIMMA for Best African Dance in 2017, the BEFFTA for Best Dance Crew in 2016, the HIPIPO Awards for Trailblazer in 2015, the PAFA for Best Fashion Group in 2017, the AEA – USA for Best Dance Group in 2017, the RIAA Awards USA (2017), and the YouTube Creators Awards (2020).
