The National Unity Platform (NUP) Electoral Commission Officials have narrated how they were abducted and tortured by what they suspected to be Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) officials.
Narrating the ordeal at the NUP headquarters in Kampala, the two ladies described how they were abducted as they were heading to Kampala from a burial.
“we had gone to escort our friend Ssebuufu JohnMary, to burry his mother but on our way, we found a roadblock and we stopped thinking that it was one of the many normal roadblocks on the road.” one of the officials said.
According to the officials, they were four passengers in the car who, on reaching Mpigi saw a roadblock and they stopped but on stopping, the army officers pulled them out of their vehicles and put them in their Drone Vehicle.
They opened the door with anger, pushed us into the drone without giving us time to say anything, and confiscated our phones.
Another official, in her statement said that one of the passengers a one Rovans was badly hurt after asking for his phone which he didn’t have yet it may have fallen during the process of getting them out of their car.
“We were surrounded and they told us to get out but one would get out as the soldiers beat you up. For me, I was beaten on the buttocks and I find it hard to sit.” Said the official in tears.
She added that Rovans was asked for his phone and he pleaded that he didn’t have it in spite of being beaten.
“We were later transferred to another car and a woman kicked me saying that after I am a foot soldier.”
In 2023, according to NUP officials, the party supporters had gone missing with no trace before, during and after the 2021 general elections.
