Uganda to host 2000 Afghan refugees after Taliban’s captures of power.

The Ministry of foreign affairs has said that Uganda has partnered with the United Sates government to host Afaghan nationals fleeing the country after the Taliban took over power last week.

Following the events last weekend in Afghanistan, the Government of the United States of America reached out to several of its international partners including Uganda to assist in the likely event of the need to temporarily host some of the Afghan and International citizens that may be evacuated” the minister said.

The minister of foreign affairs said that the president of Uganda, Museveni, expressed the country’s readiness to provide assistance to the refugees including temporarily hosting although the ministry is still discussing the issue with cabinets for a final decision to be reached.

Uganda is home to more than 1.5 million refugees making it the most refugee accommodating country in Africa.

From about 1996 to 2001 the Taliban held power over three quarters of Afghanistan.

On Sunday, Taliban captures Kabul making the president flee hence winning a 20 year old fight.

The Taliban have stated that the war is over and they do not plan on seeking revenge but reinstate the country back to order.
