Uganda Roads: Gov’t releases 26.1 Bn for road maintenance works

The Government of Uganda has released 26.1 Billoin shillings for the maintenance of District, cities and municipal roads in the fourth quarter of the 2022/23 financial year.

A circular dated 17th April 2023 issued by the Uganda road fund indicated that 16,4 Billion Uganda shillings has been sent to at least 135 Districts, town councils and municipalities, 3.3 Billion to 10 cities and 6,4 Billion shillings given to 31 municipalities.

However, in some town councils, they received as little as 12 million shillings while other districts got as little as 39 million shillings for road maintenance.

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) needs in April-june 2021quater budget requested for Shs 9 billion to undertake emergency road repairs at key points and sections of some city roads.
